Breathwork to Help Beat Holiday Stress

Have Happy Holidays, not Stressful Seasons Greetings

It's flu & stress season, everyone! If you're one of the lucky ones, you get to avoid one or the other, if you're super-lucky, you get to avoid both; as for the rest of us, we've got to deal with both. Fortunately, the flu doesn't last very long. However, stress can grow and stick around for a little while longer.

Just breathe

Whatever it is that causes your holiday stress doesn't really matter. It could be having to go shopping during the busiest times. It could be having to cook a three-course meal for a couple dozen people. It could be something as simple as the weather stressing you out; it doesn't matter what it is. What does matter is how you face that stressful situation.

Remember to breathe

Whenever I feel overwhelmed by stress, I try to think of this lesson about responding, not reacting. Quick example: A bug flies at you. Now, reacting, you'd probably freak out, maybe even scream and make a bit of a scene. However, if you can learn to respond instead, you take a breath, assess the situation, and in a calmer manner, swat the bug away. The situation is the same, but the outcome can be drastically different.

In-two-three, Out-two-three

If you take that lesson of responding instead of reacting and apply it to whatever situation stresses you out this holiday season, I can't promise your stress will magically disappear, but it will dramatically lessen.

Just breathe; it's as simple as that.

Remember to breathe; remembering is the tricky part.

In-two-three, Out-two-three; and repeat.
